New Ritz-Carlton amenity: Charitable work
Guests go to a luxury hotel to be pampered. Starting April 1, Ritz-Carlton will have them planting trees, protecting endangered species and preparing food for the needy — and paying for the privilege. The Ritz-Carlton's chain-wide "Give Back Getaways," billed as a first for a hotel company, will offer guests "a chance to partner with us in making a difference," says Sue Stephenson, the Ritz "social responsibility" chief who proposed the program and is overseeing it.

Strategies for Savings

That would soon change. Dunlavey developed a systematic savings strategy based on what was most important to attendees — a plan she calls “drilling up. ” The result: an average savings of 25 percent per year.

Study: Purchase Intent Grows With Each Event
Getting up close and personal isn’t just for politicians. A new survey shows in-person events can boost purchase intent as high as 52%. According to the report, released this month by the Advertising Research Foundation, New York, purchase intent—a customer’s stated interest in buying a product—rose 11% to 52% among consumers who attended brand-sponsored events including sports championships, walkathons and theme parks. Such purchase intent translated directly to sales about 50% of the time, the report states.
